What is the difference between a Toddler bed and a Twin bed?
While a Toddler bed accepts a crib mattress, a Twin size bed holds a standard 39" by 76" mattress (how much foam and batting the manufacturer uses can often adjust the thickness and length). In addition, many of the manufacturers that we carry offer dual rail settings, allowing our clients to lower and raise the mattress height. This is very convenient for toddlers, yet is also appropriate for older children. Therefore your child can make a smooth transition straight from a crib to a child's bed.
What is a convertible crib?
A convertible crib is a popular trend that we often recommend for many of our clients. This product can change from a crib or toddler bed into an actual double bed. They come in many colours, styles and sizes, and are extremely economical as it is a product that your child can grow with that will last for many years.
How do I know what type of product to buy and how much to expect to pay?
There are many different grades and types of wood. These grades concern hardness, colour and price, all very important issues that affect the price of various products. Pine offers excellent basic value at great prices. However, birch products are often very popular for kid's rooms, as birch is harder than pine, yet not as expensive as other woods such as mahogany or oak. In addition birch easily takes many different shades and stains, allowing our client to pick from a wide variety of colours. Birch can also provide a more seamless smooth look, as opposed to the various knots that are often found in pine.
MDF is a more recent product that many manufacturers solely use, or even combine with wood to create a more customized solid finish on kid's furniture. MDF, also known as medium density fiberboard, maintains a hard consistency, and can be much cheaper then solid wood. Both MDF and wood have similarities and differences that many of our clients are concerned about. KIDS believes that by educating the client, they can choose what is right for them.
As a client moves from man made foil laminates through combination products, through solid woods and then to high-end custom veneers, the price will naturally go up. However, it is important to understand that within any given price range the qualities can vary tremendously. KIDS HELP CLIENTS IDENTIFY WHAT THEY WANT AND NEED.
How do I gain maximum storage without over cluttering my room?
We often suggest including drawers under children's beds as they are a great way to maximize what is often unused space. They can also be either every day of even from season to season . We also recommend using narrow but tall storage pieces such as a sweater or lingerie chest to build storage up to the wall. Finally, adding a piece such as a hutch or shelves over case pieces (like a desk or double dresser) is a great way to get your children's belongings off the floor.
